It’s a great ‘Vue’ from here!
Food, art, AND fashion all in one place? I know what you’re thinking…’Did he show up at some fashion show in an art gallery trying to feed all the skinny models butter tarts?’ Not quite…but I did manage to snag a lunch date with a local fashion designer at a cafe that is located inside an art gallery.
Vue Cafe is a work of art all by itself. Catering to the busy business lunchers of downtown Calgary, the establishment offers dishes that are a step-up from your regular soup & sandwich. The majority of its seating is set up on a long, curved bar with a couple small tables on either side. The open kitchen is situated in the middle of the bar where one can watch the chef artfully create their lunch right in front of them.
My lunch-date, Adejoke Taiwo, is perhaps best known as a Top 6 finalist from Project Runway Canada. Her line a la la dreamer can be seen at Mealan in Calgary, Twiggie & Hottie in Vancouver, and at www.adejoke.com. After we order our lunch we took our lavender honey lemonades (house-made) and went to check out the art.
In exchange for fashion tips, Adejoke answered some food-related questions for me…
What food do you eat to keep your energy up if you’re working overtime on your line? Grapes, strawberries, green tea, and microwave popcorn. That’s my power combo!
What’s your favorite dish to cook at home? Plantains and lasagna, but not together! I put cream of mushroom soup in my lasagna, that’s my secret.
