IPL is the largest T20 league in the world, and for good reason. IPL is one of the most popular leagues in the world, not just because of its revenue but also due to the intense competition between the teams. IPL has also reached new heights with a few rules tweaks, while still keeping in mind the ICC Rule Book. The new Impact Player Rule is one example.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India, (BCCI), took their inspiration from the Big Bash League to introduce this new rule. It has been a success so far. This new rule has led to high-scoring matches becoming the norm. It has been difficult for fans to grasp.
Aakash chopra, a former cricketer from India who is now a commentator, has proposed two radical modifications to the current tournament format to make it more exciting. Chopra suggested that bonus points be awarded for victories with larger margins. The proposal was based on the difficulties surrounding net run rate, according to the former cricketer.
“Introduction to the Bonus Points when you win a game by a large margin. The NRR is absolute, but the math over 14 games can be difficult to comprehend. Bonus points are a tangible incentive for significantly improving your performance. And also, keeps the interest alive for longer,” tweeted the cricketer-turned-commentator. The Bonus Point Rule has been implemented in other T20 Leagues, such as the SA20.
Aakash Chopra proposed starting the last-leg games at the same time.
Chopra suggested that the matches be played in the final leg of the IPL 2023 tournament at the same time, as the league stage is running out before the top teams are determined. He claimed that the teams who play last will lose out.
“Provision to start the games at the same time in the final legs.” LSG is in a better position today because they know the exact formula to beat CSK’s NRR…because CSK played first. Chopra said that tomorrow’s result will depend on the results of today ,”.
