Sony has finally released its virtual reality headset PlayStationVR2 from the exclusivity of a USB cable.
The headset is now available at Amazon, Best Buy and Walmart. The PSVR 2 headset and controllers are available at each retailer for the same $549.99 as Sony. If you’d like to bundle it with Horizon Call of the Mountain for $599.99, this bundle shows off a lot of the PSVR 2 potential. It is available at Amazon, Best Buy Target Walmart and GameStop.
Sony’s website had been the only place you could buy the PSVR 2 when it launched late in February. sales haven’t been great for the PS5 compatible VR headset, but it’s certainly not the only factor.
Most often, the biggest problem is game selection. The launch lineup consists of games that are already available on other platforms. This tide has started to change with VR add-ons and unique experiences for AAA titles such as Gran Turismo 7 or Resident Evil Village.
PC compatibility could help the PSVR 2 to gain a bit more traction, but there has been no sign that this is on the cards. Just selling it in more stores will help. Since the only way to find out if VR is for you is to test it, this could be the first step in retail stores installing kiosks so that people can try the PSVR 2 on and decide if they like it. This is another aspect that’s missing from a launch only available online.
