PUBG may have been the champion of battle royale, but its competitors appear to be miles in front and its end might be closer than players think. PUBG Battlegrounds is largely responsible for the battle royale genre being so popular today.
It may not be the best-known battle royale but it is often credited for popularizing the genre. Since its launch, countless games have copied the high-stakes gameplay. It is still a major strength to this day. No king is ever going to rule forever, so PUBG’s glory days may be over.
Even though PUBG is one of the most popular computer games, it should come to an end. As of now, the battle royale seems to have fallen behind its competition and is showing its age. It may still have a lot of juice, but its final days could be closer than some players think.
PUBG Promoted Battle Royales
When it first entered Steam Early Access in 2017, PUBG: Battlegrounds exploded onto the scene. The game’s gameplay was intense and players felt passionate about it. Only one person could be the best. This was the first battle royale game that wasn’t a mod.
The popularity of PUBG Battlegrounds led to a number of developers betting on their own battle royale. Fortnite’s beautiful graphics are also immortal. Fortnite is known for its endless hybrids. The studio constantly reinvents the game, adding new box parts. Nobody knows what to expect.
Then again, PUBG: Battlegrounds feels stale. The graphics are a bit stale, the studio did not do much to reinvent gameplay, and the hybrid aspect has been avoided for the most part. Fortnite continues to dominate the market, but PUBG: Battlegrounds seems to have blurred.
The crown of PUBG Battlegrounds has been lost to the competition. If PUBG Studios does not try to reinvent the game further, it is possible that the game will be in its final days. Future PUBG games may confirm this reality. The success of PUBG portable could also mean that this establishment’s only future will be on mobile phones. But the truth will come out at some point.
PUBG Battlegrounds can be played on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Xbox One.
